Directions and Suggestions For Use
Print Sorting Mats on cardstock and laminate for durability.
Can print ‘sorting cards’ on cardstock or regular paper depending on preference. I also like to mark the backs of each set (just draw a colored line through the backs of each row) so that it is easy to see which card belongs to which set before laminating. BUT if you forget, a colored sharpie line works great on top of laminate too!

*Provide students with all the cards, a mixture or only one type (number, 10 frame, objects to count) based on student needs and/or what you want your students to practice.

**You may want to pull out the cards with ‘10’ to avoid confusion! I included them as a ‘reference’ point for students (especially the 10 frame/object cards)**

*Place the playing cards in a ‘burrow’ (aka brown lunch bag that is trimmed on top so that it isn’t too tall for reaching in) and provide students with sorting mat. Can also give students the number line to reference.

*Students pull a card from the burrow, ‘read’ it and place it on the mat on the appropriate side based on what is on the card.

*Use the optional recording sheet for students to record what they pulled/sorted.
(This is great for advanced students to enrich their learning)

*Great as a math center or activity station for the week leading up to Groundhog Day!

This center does not take a great deal of prep, but is sure to be a fun way to review and practice with a thematic spin!
