This is a two-day group activity where students work in groups of 2-3 to analyze excerpts of Hammurabi's Code of Law. There are 4 pages of translated laws for the students to discuss in groups or whole-class. They can evaluate them, compare them to modern American law, and analyze them to figure out more about the Babylonian civilization. Then there is a chart for the groups to fill out to turn in for a grade. This is a great activity that not only gives the students a better understanding of the Babylonians, but also makes them use critical thinking, cooperation, and evaluate their own society's rules.
