I created this double-sided Group Collaboration Assessment Sheet especially for those of us who must assess and report on our students' Learning Skills.
This checklist-style worksheet allows students to very quickly assess their own contributions during a group work session, as well as to assess the contributions and effectiveness of the other students in the group towards the learning outcome. The sheet has two sides: the first for self-assessment, the second for group assessment. Five different scenarios in student friendly language are provided for self-assessment; six different scenarios are provided for group assessment. All each student needs to do is check off the statement that most closely matches his/her group work experience. There is also a space included for writing any further comments, if needed.
I have successfully used this sheet in many of my grade 7 literacy, history and geography lessons involving group work and can attest to its ease of use and effectiveness for students' honest appraisals of their own and their group's performance. Teacher colleagues have also test driven this sheet for group work collaboration in two other subject areas, instrumental music and mathematics, and report similar positive responses both for themselves as teachers and from their students.
