This module of 12 activities is about giving participants a better understanding of how certain behaviors affect the progress of a group and what skills will increase their effectiveness when working as a part of a team.
FAQ and Web of Communication highlight interpersonal communication skills, specifically promoting a balance of listening and speaking. Participants experience how lack of communication affects group progress in Knot. They test how well they work as a team in Awkward Picnic. Leader is a fun game that symbolically demonstrates the role of a group leader. Participants receive necessary negotiation practice to deal with conflict when it arises during AT SEA.
All these activities have the participants observe the process of cooperation from a range of angles, but they are put to the test with the group challenges in Crazy Questions and League of Superpowers.
Also included are four fun team-building games: Back Talk, This is a Shoe!, Electric Orange Race, and Lap Sit, which can be used as icebreakers or as a way to wrap up the unit.
The activities are all from my book, “Smile Inside: Experiential Activities for Self-Awareness Ages 12-13“.
