Requires: Microsoft Word 2016 on Windows
The Group-N-Pick tool allows teachers to group and to select students “smartly at random” during class by using out-of-sight student profile data.
Groups can be formed randomly or based on student ability or on buddies. Certain students can be flagged beforehand as "must work together" or "can't work together."
The tool also includes a hands-free student ticker which displays a new student name every few seconds.
The video portion of this listing is a demonstration of the tool. The tool is included in the .ZIP file.
Instructions for using the tool are included in the readme file in the .ZIP file.
TO INSTALL THE GROUP-N-PICK TOOL:
1. Determine the location of your Word personal templates directory. In Word, go to Word/File/Options/Save, and find the “Default personal templates location” setting. If no location is listed, specify a location on your local drive (you may need to use File Explorer to create the directory). C:\templates would be an appropriate choice. You will need to know this location in step 4 below.
2. Close all copies of Word.
3. Download Group-N-Pick .ZIP file and extract the files from it.
4. Run the extracted INSTALL.BAT file by double-clicking on it from File Explorer. It will ask you to enter the name of your Word personal templates location from step 1.
That’s it for installing the tool. You will never directly open any of the files from the tool (except for the readme).
