Product Description
Teach your students work in effectively groups with five different lessons to learn about the various roles group members can play, the importance of decision making and how to reach a consensus. A collection of self-assessments are included in the package so students can decide if they are being contributing members of the group. Each lesson with its accompanying activity takes about 30-45 minutes to do. Modifications for students with special needs are included with no extra prep work.

This is a great set of activities to start your school year off on the right foot!

The lessons are:
What Make a Good Group Member? Students work through activities to decide what qualities make a good group member.

Creating Classroom Rules: This is a perfect lesson for the beginning of the year. Students can create the classroom rules by discussing the most important rules starting by working as an individual all the way to the whole class until the group agrees on three rules.

Survival Island: This lesson puts students in an imaginary survival situation where they will have to argue for and against the most important items needed. They will have opportunities to decide how to come to decisions, how to communicate with each other and how to determine criteria for "important."

Who Am I?: This lesson has students look at the different roles group members can play and determine which roles best match their own strengths.

Communication Cards: These mini task cards will challenge your student during a group activity where communication is the key to winning!

Several different group/peer assessments are included so students can evaluate their skills as a group member.

Lessons are written with Canadian spellings, but all student pages come in Canadian/British and American spellings.

All of these lessons have been classroom tested with fourth-sixth graders. They particularly enjoy the Survival Island lesson.
