A few years ago, we were individually asked in a professional development meeting what was something we wanted to work on that semester. I wanted to explore the teaching roles that students take and what that means for their learning process. This assignment was born from that statement.
This is a heavy presentation (worth a good chunk of a final grade in my classes) where students work in groups to take control of the class and actually teach relevant material they find important. In writing classes, the topics usually take a writing theme, and in research heavy classes, the topics are more research process based.
