This set of grouping cards can be used in any classroom. Students can be grouped into 8 groups of 4 students, and this set can be used with 29-32 students per class.
Here’s how it works:
Are you tired of making student groups? Do you have students who try to beat your grouping system? If you said yes to either of these questions, then this product is for you.
Students select a card at the beginning of class or an activity. Your students who want to beat the system are going to immediately try to get their friends to pick cards of the same color. You CAN group students by the color of the card they chose, but you can also group them by the card’s border, animal, food, transportation, or sport image. Your class can be grouped up to 6 times, and the same two students should never be in the same group. You can also select a number from 1-32. This is wonderful for both younger students who need to move around often, and for older students who quickly lose focus. You can have students pick a card at the beginning of the school year, and use it the entire year, or you can have students pick a card daily and return it.
You can print out the file onto colored paper, as indicated on the document. Printing on colored paper allows you to use the color of the card as a grouping method. No worries if you do not have colored paper, that just means that you only have 5 ways to group students.
You can print the images in color or black and white. This is a personal preference, and does not affect the usage of this product.
To print on colored paper:
You need 8 different pieces of colored paper. I’ve listed which page to copy onto which color of paper. I included colors of pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and turquoise as example colors, but you can use ANY 8 different colored pieces of paper. You will copy the 8 grouping card pages in this document SINGLE SIDED.
To print on white paper:
Print each of the 8 grouping card pages in this document SINGLE SIDED. You will then be able to group students by the card’s border, animal, food, transportation or sport image.
Want to make these last for years?
If you teach multiple classes per day, I would suggest trimming the cards around each border and laminating after printing them out.
