Sight words are an important part of learning to read, and students must see these words many times before they remember the word and are able to use it. I like to make sure my students have lots of practice with their words in the classroom. This "Growing Sight Words" activity is just one way to give your students the opportunity to build and read sight words in a fun, engaging way. Simply print, laminate, and cut out the pots and flowers. Students will use the flowers to build the word on the flower pot. This activity will keep your students engaged and working to build their sight words. It's a perfect activity for anytime during the year.
This set uses many of the words from the Dolch and Fry Sight word lists, so you can choose words that your students have already learned or words they are struggling with for them to have extra practice with. There are 94 words available. I have also included blank pots and flowers just in case you want to add your own words. This activity can be used again and again with different words, or differentiated for different groups of students. I use it as a literacy center, but it could also be used for small group teaching or as an "I'm finished" activity.
Both color and black and white options are available for ease of printing and to help save ink!
