If you are not familiar with the concept, simply do a google search for growth mindset or even look on TpT for ways to introduce it. This poster is a fun addition to your other activities. It is a way to reinforce the concept or to help your students see how they can implement it.

So, what's the difference?

A fixed mindset is one where people think intelligence is static. People think they are the way they are. They avoid obstacles and challenges when they are presented. They don't see effort as a contributing factor to success and they don't want to work hard. They are often threatened by the success of others.

A growth mindset is where people think intelligence can be developed. They see effort as path to success. They overcome challenges. They work hard and see good in criticisms. As a result, they reach higher levels of achievement.

The poster presents kids that have a fixed mindset. The kids have comments written above their heads, such as "I'm not good at this!" or "My plan didn't work!"..... Your students will then change the fixed mindset to a growth mindset by writing a new comment in the speech bubble. What could the child have said that would have been a better choice of words? What might lead to greater achievement?

It's the perfect way to help kids see that they really can change their mindset by changing a few words/thoughts.

You can introduce this topic to your students any time during the year, but back-to-school is the perfect time to introduce how important it is to have a growth mindset way of thinking.

This poster activity would make a perfect follow up activity to support your teachings of the concept. It could work as an individual activity or even a partner activity.

There are plenty of opportunities for students to add their own colors to the poster, and the finished poster would look great hanging in the classroom. They could even stay up all year!
