If your students are like mine, they love word searches. I use them to introduce vocabulary or terms, or even just give it as morning work. This growth mindset word search is a great way to get your kids talking about the characteristics of a person with a growth mindset way of thinking versus a fixed mind set.
You could even have them choose mindset traits from the list and write a short paragraph about a character depicting that trait or they could write about how they will try to work towards changing their mindset using the phrases to help guide their writing. Use it however you would like in your classroom.
So, what's the difference?
A fixed mindset is one where people think intelligence is static. People think they are the way they are. They avoid obstacles and challenges when they are presented. They don't see effort as a contributing factor to success and they don't want to work hard. They are often threatened by the success of others.
A growth mindset is where people think intelligence can be developed. They see effort as path to success. They overcome challenges. They work hard and see good in criticisms. As a result, they reach higher levels of achievement.
This word search actually includes complete PHRASES, so I would consider it challenging. Phrases are found in all directions: forward, backward, up, down, and diagonal.
The Growth Mindset phrases included are:
●Desire to learn new things
●Works to improve
●Doesn't blame others
●Trains their brain
●Keeps on trying
●Inspired by others' successes
●Not afraid to fail
●Effort is everything
●Sees feedback as positive
●Learns from mistakes
