Great activity for the beginning of the year or any time students are in a slump!
Scientists argue that the more students learn about the Growth Mindset and Malleable Intelligence, the more they will persevere and show grit and ultimately grow in your class. This foundation can help you support students throughout the school year: when they are struggling in reading, when they fail a test, when they are struggling to master a skill, or when they don’t feel like editing their work.
The lesson plans use Common Core State Standards, but can be adapted for any lessons. During activities where I can talk about myself, I talk about how I was bad at rugby when I first started, how I have been trying to improve my work in math, and how I try to be a better runner. Make your examples genuine to you and allow them to help you work closely with the students and build connections.
