Everyday my students and I have family time. During this family time, I deliberately plan to teach my first graders social skills such as character education, how to be respectful, and my favorite, the topic of growth mindset. It is so important for my students to know that they are not dumb, but that their brain is a muscle that needs to be exercised. I have created this unit, that takes about 2-3 weeks to get through with about 20 minutes a day. This resource is a freebie sampler from that resource
This 3 page freebie sample includes the following
✔ one page anticipatory set
to gauge where your students stand on the topic. I usually compare the anticipatory set to the last day writing activity that we do.
✔ 4 question cards
that you can play a "game" with in class. The questions help the students think about the topic of growth mindset. On some cards, the students will be asked to encourage a friend that is having trouble with their way of thinking. This is offered in black and white.
✔ 1 Black and White Poster/Coloring Sheet to hang around the room to keep reminding the students to keep their heads up and keep learning hard.
