This growth mindset lesson helps give students a safe place to struggle with a hard task. So often we get uncomfortable when children struggle and move on to something else. If we want students with a strong growth mindset, they need to know how to struggle without quitting.
This ready to go growth mindset lesson goes along with the book Iggy Peck Architect. You will need to own, purchase, or be able to borrow this book to teach this lesson.
The lesson includes stopping points for a read-aloud of the book, discussion questions for after the book, rules for a card building challenge, a worksheet for students to use to plan their house of cards and write about their experience, and a short follow up to the card challenge activity.
I have used this growth mindset lesson successfully for all elementary students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. I have also used this with self-contained classes of students with special needs.
