Most students come into the classroom, particularly by middle school and beyond, thinking they know whether or not they are smart and whether or not they are good at a subject. The new movement in education towards growth mindsets challenges these core beliefs. However, years of thinking to themselves, “I’m just not good at math,” can not be over-ridden by one teacher saying once or twice, “You can do it, with practice you’ll get better.”
For this reason I have developed a progress monitoring folder to target building that growth mindset in students. We use this folder several times a month and track our progress from our first pre-test, every quiz and test, as well as periodically do a reflection on our learning.
This has been a labor of love and by far the best thing I have done in the classroom this year! If you are interested in creating portfolios for students, instilling growth mindset, and having students take ownership of their learning, this bundle is for you!
Portfolio tracker for students to track scores on all quizzes, test, projects; including recording proficiency level and making goals
