WHAT IF THAT POOR MARK WASN’T THE END? What if it just meant you hadn’t figured it out yet. But you could eventually get it if you could just figure out a way. Maybe a little more effort... Maybe a different strategy… Maybe some more time...
What if effort and difficulty didn’t mean you were dumb, but actually meant your brain was leveling up and getting smarter?
Brain researcher Carol Dweck talks about the “Power of Yet” in her TED talk about the power of believing that you can improve. A failing grade might make you think you’re nothing, but thinking about a “FAIL” as a “NOT YET” can help you realize you’re on a learning curve: “Effort and difficulty, that's when [students’] neurons are making new connections, stronger connections. That's when they're getting smarter.” (Dr Carol Dweck, Psychologist)
The next time you want to say, “I can’t do this…” just add the word “yet.” You can’t do this, yet… Don’t give up!
