Product Description
This packet is for teaching the concept of growth mindset to your elementary students. It can be used by general education and reading teachers, special education teachers, guidance counselors, school psychologists and parents.

In line with new research that tells us that attitude plays an important part in reading and literacy, this story contains an 11-page teaching story in color that features a boy who is having difficulties reading and wants to give up. His friend teaches him about growth mindset and helps him adopt a growth mindset point of view towards reading. Although the story is about reading, you can use it to teach the overall concept of growth mindset.

Also included, 3 growth mindset posters. One is on general growth mindset talk, one on growth mindset talk related to reading and the third is an "Our classroom is...." poster.

To help student further understand the concepts behind growth mindset, there is also an "effort" thermometer and 2 (growth or fixed?) sorting mats with sentences to sort according to if they represent a fixed or growth mindset. The sentences are tiered: one set has pictures and text and the other set is text only.

The following black and white worksheets are included to use during your lesson or as homework:
"What makes my brain grow?" Students can draw a picture or write about something that is challenging for them. 2 pages.
"From never to not yet." Students match fixed mindset statements to growth mindset statements or write a growth mindset statement. 2 pages.
Growth Mindset Vocabulary Flip Flaps. 3 pages: Students write synonyms and/or antonyms for the words "growth" or "fixed" on the "brain" of a skeleton.
