This growth mindset lesson uses the book The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School by Deborah Diesen to teach students about how to approach new beginnings. You will need to have access to this book to teach this lesson.
This book talks about a fish who is just starting out in school and gets discouraged because he keeps on going into the wrong classes and they are all too advanced for him. He finally ends up in the class for fish just beginning school and realizes that he will do just fine because he is now in a place where he can start from the beginning and learn and grow.
This growth mindset lesson includes a guide for a read-aloud of the book, questions for a follow-up discussion for a small group or your whole class, and 3 follow-up worksheets you can use the reinforce the growth mindset lesson and have something for the students to take home about their new learning.
