Super handy packet focusing on the growth of the 13 colonies. The packet is nine pages - packed with information for students to research and learn.
Lots of images and charts. I created this to use along with an American History textbook that we have titled Creating America - A History of the United States.
However - this can be used easily by making a web-based activity. All of the information can be found online.
HOW I USED IT IN CLASS - the day we are looking at the Growth of the 13 Colonies I created a speed research activity. I tell the students that it is like the activity of Speed Dating. It's funny to hear them talk about that and I explain Speed Dating to those that don't understand. It's a light-hearted way to begin the activity.
I have the tables divided into six groups - two each for the New England, Middle and Southern colonies. Guidelines are simple when the activity begins you can work with the people (3 in a group) you are sitting with for that region. Once the timer sounds, all are up and moving to a new group. Can't work with the same people 2 times in a row, but can again later. At the end they work alone on the map and King Philip's War - videos involved - so they need earbuds.
Here are the link I used for the King Philip's portion of this packet:

I start at 48:00 and go to 49:30 to learn a little about Metacom (Phillip)
Then I have students skip to 58:30 and watch until 1:11:00.
This is from the We Shall Remain series.
