Guess the Mystery Letter is an Animated Step-by-Step Resource designed to address a literacy agenda.
The student is presented a photograph representing a CVC (Consonant Vowel Consonant) word, e.g., cat. The three letters/sounds that make up the word are provided but one of the letter slots (initial, medial, final) offers three letter/sound choices. As all letters are designed to produce their corresponding sound when touched or clicked, the student can experiment with the letters/sounds.
Upon selecting a sound/letter choice, the correct letter is revealed through a series of animations. First the target photo is pulsed and announced (“cat”). Then the missing letter turns red and slides into position, (e.g., “t” rather than “p” or “n”) and finally the CVC word is pronounced as a complete word, e.g. “cat”, then as a sequenced series of individual letters/sounds, e.g., “c” – “a” – “t”
Unlike other ASbyS offerings there is only one version of this resource. There are no Symbol-supported versions. Please note this PowerPoint resource does not translate well into Keynote.
This resource can be displayed on the 'big screen' (interactive whiteboard, large screen TV using Apple TV) or the 'small screen' (computer monitor, iPad/Android tablet using the free Microsoft PowerPoint app).
