### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Did you know that one of the main reasons why many students struggle with word problems is because word problems are arranged in over 10 different formats? Understanding how to solve one type of multiplication problem does not guarantee that a student will not get confused with one of the additional THREE or more ways that a multiplication word problem could be arranged. The same is true for addition, subtraction, and division word problems.

Guided Math Word Problems Level 1 focuses on helping students understand which operation to perform IN ORDER TO solve a word problem. In this game, students sort the cards based on the operations that should be performed in order to solve a word problem (i.e, add, subtract, multiply, or divide). In the process, students will see the multiple ways that problems are worded with each operation.

Understanding which operation to perform is the first step when it comes to improving with word problems. That is why this is an excellent resource for differentiating math instruction and for use as a general math center activity or for test prep. Students build mathematical reasoning skills and learn to focus on key ideas as they notice the different word problem formats that require a person to subtract, add, multiply, or divide.

This document includes:
-a student performance tracking form
- 20 game cards
-a printable box for storage
-student recording forms

Students can use this alone or with a small group. These are excellent for Math RTI and for differentiating instruction.
