This is a two-page document. On the front side is a three-day break down for an early emergent guided reading group.
Day 1 - focuses on word work that is in the book or that students need. This could be short vowels, rhyming, changing beginning sounds, etc. At the end of the Day 1 lesson you also introduce the new book and do a picture walk with the students, but do not actually read the book. (Do not send home this book for homework yet.)
Day 2 - starts with students reading a familiar book to help get them comfortable. After reading the familiar book switch gears and do a book introduction on the new book and go over any key words or phrases that students will need help with. Students will then read the new book for the first time. Choose two students to take notes on;l. (Do not send home this book for homework yet.)
Day 3 - focuses on comprehension and write about reading. There is a place to write specific questions to ask and what you want your students to write about. After students finish their writing they read the book for a second time. At this time you choose one of the students in the group to do a running record on for their second read of this book (on the back of this page). Students take the book home for homework tonight.
