This is a two-page document. On the front side is a three-day break down for an emergent guided reading group.
Day 1 - focuses on word work that is in the book or that students need. This could be short vowels, rhyming, changing beginning sounds, etc. At the end of the Day 1 lesson you also introduce the book and do a picture walk with the students, but do not actually read the book. (Do not send home this book for homework yet.)
Day 2 - focuses on teaching or reviewing a strategy or skill that will be helpful when reading the chosen book. There is also a place to write any tricky words you want to share with your students. On this day the students read the book for the first time. There is a spot to take notes on two students. (Do not send home this book for homework yet.)
Day 3 - focuses on comprehension and write about reading. There is a place to write specific questions to ask and what you want your students to write about. After students finish their writing they read the book for a second time. At this time you choose one of the students in the group to do a running record on for their second read of this book (on the back of this page). Students take the book home for homework tonight.
