My Guided Reading activities are designed to generate classroom interest whilst effectively preparing 10 and 11 year olds for reading tests.
The topics I cover are often things that genuinely interest the children, even though the normal curriculum doesn't include such topics and stories.
In this activity, which is part of my 'Mysteries of the World, series, we look at the legend of Bigfoot. Could it be true? You decide!
Each activity has questions and answers, with an indication of how many marks are on offer at the end of each question. This is particularly helpful for children preparing for reading tests and exams, encouraging them to give fuller answers where required.
This resource includes separate text and questions for higher ability and lower ability readers. These are colour coded:
You will find the higher ability text and questions in the blue boxes.
You will find the lower ability text and questions in the red boxes.
The content is broadly the same, and the answers to both are identical. For your lower ability readers, however, there is more guidance in where to look for answers and slightly less text to read.
There will be some words in the texts that your children won’t be familiar with. For these, a ‘Wordbuster’ is included. This is a glossary of unfamiliar words.
Also included is a number of suggested cross-curricular activities so you can extend the children’s learning and enthusiasm for the topic in other subjects.
Please see my other resources. There is a similar activity pack on the Loch Ness Monster, and more to follow in Summer 2014.
