Guided Reading Books for Beginning Readers: Set 2. This set of 10 guided reading books will help your little readers feel successful! They are just right for beginning readers. Each book focuses on sight words, word families, and/or blends and digraphs. Most character names are chosen based on ease of reading. Repetitive text is often included as practice for young readers. The following sight words are included: good, hot, very, too, down, her, his, was, went, they, nice, this, one-ten (number words), get, want, so, many, me, said, saw, new, ran, both, he, him, put, now, say, some, then, think, and 10 color words. The books cover the following word families: -ot, -ook, -ed, -ool, -oon, -an, -and, -ish, and -in. The books also focus on the following blends/digraphs: sh, sl, sp, sw, sh, th, tr, gr, st, pl, and fl.
This set includes both color and blackline versions!
This set of guided reading books addresses the following CCSS for kindergarten and first grade:
RF.K.1 Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print. Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page. Understand that words are separated by spaces in print.
RF.1.1 Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
RF.K.2. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.1(This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.)
RF.1.2b Orally produce single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends.
RF.1.2c Isolate and pronounce initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single-syllable words.
RF.K.3.Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does).
RF.1.3b Decode regularly spelled one-syllable words. RF.K.4.Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
RF.1.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
