This unit contains 5 nonfiction titles—Eggs, Snakes, Chickens, Frogs and Butterflies. For each of the titles, there are three versions of the each text—one for intervention groups, one for on-target groups, and one for challenge groups. While the word choice in each level varies, all 3 of them use the same non-fiction feature. Also, all 3 versions teach the same content. These books allow you to provide your readers with text that is “readable” for guided reading. While these books are made using color photographs, many books contain black and white photographs. So feel free to print in color OR black and white. I suggest printing the books on cardstock and laminating for durability. You may also chose to reproduce them “½ page size” using the “multiple” option when printing a pdf. That is a perfect size for guided reading. Each of the titles contains a lesson plan for developing background knowledge and how to introduce the text. All three of the versions for each title have the same non-fiction features and information. There are also differentiated word work and phonemic/phonics foundational work. You will be able to choose the activities that best meet the needs of your groups. The follow up activities include: Word Work for children to practice sight words, Phonemic/Phonics Work for children to practice foundational skills, and Non-fiction Feature Work to practice the feature used in the text.
