As a new teacher, I was introduced to Jan Richardson’s The Next Step in Guided Reading to use during my small group reading instruction time. Now, years later, I still rely on her book for its tried and true teaching methods, reading tools, and lesson structures. Following her advice, my students continue to make extraordinary gains in literacy each year.
I especially love Jan Richardson’s reading plans. These plans allow me to structure my lessons so that I hit all the key elements in a way that is meaningful and carefully considered. They also help me to stay focused and on task during our brief 20 minutes together. My students enjoy the routine but are never bored because of the quick variations throughout the lessons.
Included in this packet are several versions of her lesson plans (pre-A, emergent, early, transitional, and fluent). They come in both regular and black-top versions. I’ve also included several individual versions of her lesson plans.
I hope you find these lesson plan formats easy to use (and visually appealing)!
