This one page lesson plan template is designed to save you time when planning your guided reading lesson plans by simplifying the process into a one page template. This template was designed after several years of planning guided reading groups that took many hours to complete. This is a condensed planning template that makes guided reading thorough by ensuring your plans contain the essentials, but keeps you from spending unnecessary time listing all the procedures you will complete within each group.
The Guided Reading Lesson Plan Template contains a section for the book title/text name, text level, focus of the lesson, and Common Core Goal/Objective at the top. In addition a section is included to list the student names and the group meeting time for ease of use. A materials section is even included to be sure you list all of your lesson needs.
The template is then divided into three sections: a before, during and after reading portion. The beginning portion contains a table detailing vocabulary for the week, the amount of text to be read daily, and symbols to denote if the text is new or continued. The during and after portions contain instructions for the teacher and students to follow during their guided time together. A section is also included for independent book work that may extend beyond the guided time.
This template is great for planning novel studies as page numbers can be included under the amount of text to be read section, but can also be used to outline the use of different or daily texts. I find that the template lends itself to grades 3-5 easily, but can be incorporated into grades 1 and 2 as well.
A template is also included for assessing your guided reading groups. This assessment tool includes a table that can be adapted to include student names and allows you to record observations you see while working with each child.
**The download will include word and pdf versions of the template and assessment rubric for ease of use!**
