This guided reading lesson plan is designed to improve the reading strategies of students who have tested as a level X on the Fountas & Pinnell Running Records Assessments. I have used the strategies in the "Continuum of Learning, 3-8" by Fountas & Pinnell, to create questions and activities based on the first 4 chapters of Part 1 of "Storm Thief", by Chris Wooding. These are color coded to match the focus skills needed to support student learning. Also, this exciting book, "Storm Thief", keeps young readers engaged and uses science fiction to explore common character and thematic relationships. These rigorous lessons can be given within a week time period or stretched over 2 weeks, depending on the length of your daily guided reading group. Students are also eager to share their chapter summaries via Google Doc. I have a sample that you can use as a model for creating your own, private document for you students to access.
