Guided Reading or Book Club Lesson Plan
Who doesn't love the Judy Moody books? This book focuses on Judy's pesky little brother Stink. This book is an engaging book that my students seem to love to read. I decided to use this book while focusing on the characters and how they are feeling throughout the book as well as using context clues to determine meaning and identify feelings.

Each chapter is broken down to include an introduction, stopping places for discussion, and a journal reflection question. The stopping places allow students to connect with the characters or explore different vocabulary (essential for ELL learners) and guide discussion while reading. The journal reflection questions focus on higher level thinking skills (inferring, predicting, connecting). Each question comes with a sentence starter. It allows students to focus and use evidence from the book in their reflecting.

Like my other guided reading packs, my students really enjoyed reading this book a lot! They seem to love the character Stink and are always excited to read it and see what happens next. The reflection questions along the way helped them to focus on the higher-order thinking skills and allowing them to find evidence to support their opinions. This book focused a lot on making inferences about the characters in the text.

Timeline: This was used with a small group of students who met 30 minutes a day/5 times a week. They focused on a chapter a day and worked with this book for 2 weeks. It can be extended depending on adding in word work or using more of the extension activities.

Standards: The standards I focused on were second grade standards as that is the grade I am currently teaching but this text would work for other grade levels as well.

**Note: I love creating lesson plans for high interest books that my students grab onto when we read them. They are really getting into character and chapter books at the moment! Hope you enjoy these plans and can use them in your classroom too. **
