Guided Reading Letters Levels c-h, 3.4-14 and combo of both.
I created these reading level explanation letters because I wanted parents to be informed of how their child was doing during my guided reading time. Many of my parents didn’t understand the progression of guided reading, and that there was more to it than just reading words on a page. I wanted them to celebrate their child’s accomplishments when they changed levels, but also let them know what that level entailed. I also wanted them to know how to help them if I found something that needed work.
I created this three different ways. I have a portion that covers DRA and GRL as one. It has a basic conversion. As with anything, this is from my experience and from using multiple texts and resources for wording, and this is just a guide and not perfect. This is just what I use in my class, and my not be exactly what your school or district uses.
I then have one set that is DRA, and one set that is GRL based. The GRL is based on the F& P reading of Guided Reading. These again are based on my experience and many books and articles that I have read. Please ensure that they are what you want to use in your classroom, and that they match your child’s reading level.
I have included a running record form that allows parents to see how their child did during a particular observation during either a running record or just informal note. There is a note section to add anything you feel you need to add.

These can be used at any grade level that students are reading at these levels. This can be used in homeschooling, or special education.
