Encourage a love of reading in your students while cultivating their analytical skills by implementing this reading project. Students are required to read at least one book per term and complete the inquiry questions.
Each term has been allocated one or two specific genres in order to encourage wide reading, and expose them to books they may not have considered previously.
The questions are based on the well known ALARM (a Learning and Responding Matrix) developed by Max Woods. It engages students in a hierarchy of thinking and writing skills that promote deep understanding by employing higher order thinking, and student inquiry and reflection. This structure will assist students to 'learn how to learn' by making the process explicit. The aim of this project is to develop students reading, writing and mechanical understanding of language while also being an enjoyable task!
The attached book list has been developed for year 8/9, however, the guiding questions can be used at any year level.
