When teaching our guided reading groups, it is often that a quick check of vowel sounds and word families is necessary and helpful in order that quick assessments can help to drive our instruction.
This two-chart set (short & long vowels) is an organized and easy way for you to record where your students are at following a word building activity, flash card quick assessment, or decodable book read through.
Place a check mark in the appropriate box:
A: automaticity // the student decodes at first glance
D: decoding // the student decodes each sound before reading
S: struggling // the student struggles to decode or makes errors
When you glance back at this chart you'll be able to quickly assess where each student is at with the particular vowel sound or word family from that day to determine who is ready to move on and who needs additional instruction.
