The purpose of this resource:
I put these lessons together after several requests, but also to finally compile many resources and ideas together in one place to make planning go a little easier and less time consuming.
How to use this resource:
You may teach the reading strategies in any order!
Introduce and teach the reading strategies whole group first. You may want to do these lessons more than once. Be sure to model actually doing the reading strategies during read aloud.Make anchor charts when possible for students to refer to. They are very powerful! Teach graphic organizers that match up when available. After you feel the class has had a good introduction, use these strategies/graphic organizers in literacy stations and during independent work time.
Use the guided reading group lessons to further practice the strategies, remediate students that are struggling and enrich students that need it.
I have included the names of many mentor texts -compiled from the internet.
Reteach, reteach, reteach!
