Product Description
This is a set of 30 guided reading strategy cards. They are based off Jan Richardson's "Next Step Forward in Guided Reading." You can use them with her book or without, as they're pretty self explanatory. They have really changed how my guided reading looks and tremendously increased my students' participation and learning!

These cards take many of the abstract reading concepts we teach and give the students a visual to make their understanding more concrete.

How I use them:
After teaching a mini lesson to go with the strategy, I have my students read a page, a few pages, or even a chapter, and then they stop and fill out a sticky note using the strategy card as their model. I like to have them place the sticky notes where I’d like them to stop ahead of time. This reminds them to stop and work with the strategy if they’re reading independently.

I have also had the kids write directly on the card, as long as they’re laminated! Then you can simply have them erase it for the next use.

When they stop to do the strategy, we take time to discuss their thoughts and what they've written down, then do a few more pages and repeat the process.
