Are you ever trying to find ways to increase effort and motivation during guided reading? I often deal with struggling readers who are looking for some sort of extrinsic reward for doing their work during guided reading. Our struggling readers are looking for a little more satisfaction and praise for their efforts. I created these "Good News" cards for students to receive and to share with their parents. A little note like this gives students instant gratification, a sense of accomplishment, and confidence! I try to hand them out to at least 1 student each day in each of my guided reading groups to show them I appreciate their hard work and effort.
It's a great way to show students you appreciate their effort and share something positive that they get to bring home to their parents!
Ultimately, we want our students to feel proud of their hard work and sometimes just giving them some kind words on paper helps them internalize it!
