Do you need to train teachers on how to implement intentional guided reading instruction or just want to brush up on your own guided reading skills? If so, you're in luck. :)
I have put together a powerpoint (32 slides with notes), sample videos, handouts and, a guided reading grouping folder and several "cheat sheets" to use for planning. I used these materials to train several teachers who had done guided reading in the past and needed a refresher as well as several teachers who were new to guided reading. After this one day training teachers were ready to engage their students in intentional guided reading on a daily basis. The "cheat sheets" are especially helpful.
The training is set up to take one day with a 90 minute lunch break. Some of the videos can be omitted if you are restricted by time. The only other resource you will need are leveled guided reading books to practice planning. I printed several from Reading A-Z when I presented this training.
The training explains why guided reading is such an important component of a K-2 literacy block, shows teachers how to identify student need, group students and plan for instruction. It also takes teachers through three guided reading group lessons in order for them to identify key components of a successful lesson.
Once the training is complete teachers will be able to plan for and engage in guided reading in their classrooms and will walk away from the training with several guided reading lessons to start the year off with.
The free preview shows the training handout. Enjoy!!!
