I use this form prior to reading with my 1st or 2nd Grade guided reading groups ( I have a more in depth paid version I use with higher grade levels). This activity goes well with a modified guided reading lesson for English language learners. It is used to pre-teach essential vocabulary for the book and set a purpose for reading. The students fill in words I select and we discuss their meaning prior to reading. The words can be reviewed each day before reading the book. It is a good resource for the students to have for writing with the vocabulary after being exposed to it in reading.
