Effective small group instruction at the early levels should always include phonics work. Having to figure out what to target can be a daunting task for a busy teacher! But now you don't have to worry about it! Adapted after Jan Richardson's Next Steps in Guided Reading, I have created word work especially designed for students reading on a level F 9/10. At this level, students learn to identify the blend at the end of a one syllable word, as well as an introduction to contractions. With that said, I have created four activities that will support your phonics work: making words, sound boxes with picture support and picture sorts (sound boards) targeting final blends and contractions. If you teach a book every two days, you just need to select one of these four activities! This word work should last between 3 and 5 minutes. All activities come in color and black and white and can be considered consumables. However, for longevity's sake, I would print and laminate the sound boxes, sound boards and picture sorts for reuse year after year. With this pack, you can rest assured you are giving your students what they need to be successful. Directions and answer keys are included.
The following final blends are included: -mp, -nd, -ng, -st, -sk, -nk, -ft, -nt, -lt
Your students will have practice sorting pictures by ending blend, making words with letter titles that have final blends, completing sound boxes (with picture support) and working with contractions in a fun but authentic way!
This product is great for any grade that has readers reading on text level F. We all have a range of learners due to special needs, ELLs or other types of learners!
