Effective small group instruction always has a focus on word work and being a busy teacher planning smarter, not harder, is the way to go! It is my hope that with this pack the prep piece will be minimal and the planning simple! If you teach 1 book for 2 days, the first day you will incorporate one of these activities in addition to your sight word practice. I try a different one each day if time allows for maximum reinforcement. These activities have been adapted from Jan Richardson's book, Next Steps in Guided Reading
The focus of the word work for level C 3/4 readers is being able to distinguish the medial vowel sound and letter. There are three major word work components here designed to help fit bill. All available in color and black and white.
11 Making Word Activities with directions of how to execute
Picture Sorts containing all the vowels allows you to take any combination of 2 vowels and have your students sort by sound-a/e;a/i,a/u,a/o and so forth. I created a file box and separated them out by letter so I can grab and go.
Sound boxes allow your students to segment the words while associating the words with pictures. These can also be cut apart and laminated and put into a word work center.
Hopefully you will see the benefit in using my product!
