This guided notes/activity is a good review of understanding how to "Solve Exponential Functions using Common Base" as it requires students to find a common base of both terms and rewrite the equation using this common base.
Two examples are illustrated in details with the 4 steps listed and work shown. Then, a "blank" steps form is provided for students to utilize as they're solving the 10 questions provided in this packet. Students may/may not use the form. It is up to the teacher as the whole purpose is to strengthen their understanding of the process.
The suggested questions in guide will include the following:
• Requires changing bases of one or two terms
• Requires applying the Power Property of Exponents
• Requires the use of distributive property in some cases
• May require the need to solve either one, two, or multi-step equations
In addition to the guided notes, there are 10 questions provided at the end in multiple choice format so students may practice. The answer key is provided as well.
This guided notes could be used to reinforce the concept. Students may work independently or with a partner. It could also be used before a short quiz or as a warm up. May be you could use it when you have few minutes left at the end of the period and would need a quick and sweet review/recap.
