This handout provides a brief overview of feminist therapy principles and techniques that can be used when counseling adolescents in the school setting. Guidelines are provided using actual examples of how the technique has been used with male and female students. Every school mental health professional should have this handout. Feminist therapy encourages mental health professionals to analyze and validate feelings of powerlessness that adolescents may have when dealing with adult powerholders. This approach can be integrated with other therapeutic techniques such as REBT, CBT, and solution focused counseling.
