This self-portrait project allows students to explore their interests while being successful in creating a portrait of themselves. This portrait does not require extensive practice with realistic facial features. It allows students to understand the self portraiture concept while learning to classify their interests into one unifying theme. I find this very successful with Art 1 students, or students whom have never created a self portrait before.
This lesson also allows students to explore art history and learn about a revolutionary artist of his time, Guiseppe Arcimboldo.
