This is a Prezi presentation that covers the different types of guitars (steel string, classical, archtop, telecaster, Gibson Les Paul, stratocaster) some history and background on each, lots of good images and famous players for each. I even added in some music to play during the presentation! Prezi presentations are the future, once you use one you will never go back to powerpoint they are great for visual mapping and connecting concepts.
I also included a pdf copy of all the slides should you need them that way.
BONUS: There are some hidden items (easter eggs) in the newspaper. These can be something you use as an extension for advanced students, or something you save until someone notices for a little spontaneity, if you are into that kind of thing. If you want to make this a "go home and look it up" sort of thing, all of this should be easy to find with a quick google search.
1. Newspaper date: Feb. 3 1959... "The Day The Music Died" as in Don McLean's "American Pie" Three legends of music died in a plane crash. Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the "Big Bopper." The song is a real slice of american history! I hope to do a prezi on it next for my classes this year.
2. Volume 18.104.22.168.12: these are the frets that are marked with dots on the side of a guitar neck
3. Number ES-150: For the Gibson ES-150, the first commercially available electric guitar sold in catalogs. It sold for $150 in a package with a small tube amplifier.
