Gumball Fractions, Decimals, and Percents Match Up has students match 60 cards of equivalent fractions, decimals, and percents to 20 pictures of gumball machines filled with red and blue gumballs.
There are 2 sets of cards in this packet. The first set contains 10 gumball machines and 30 matching cards. Each machine has 10 gumballs in it. Each card in this deck is outlined in blue and asks students to identify the fraction, decimal, and percent of blue gumballs in each machine.
The second set also contains 10 gumball machines (the same machines as the blue set) and 30 matching cards. Each card in this deck is outlined in red and asks students to identify the fraction, decimal, and percent of red gumballs in each machine.
To use in the classroom, decide whether you will use the red set only, blue set only, or the red and blue set together. If you are using both sets together, you can choose to keep both sets of gumball cards or only use one set (matching 6 cards to each picture).
Lay out the gumball cards you will be using. Mix the fraction, decimal, and percent cards that you will be using. Have students match the cards to the pictures. Each machine will match up with one decimal card, one fraction card, and one percent card (or if you are using both decks, 2 of each).
This activity is great for small group/RtI instruction, centers, and assessment. I've included an answer key in case you would like students to work independently and check their own work.
In this activity, all fractions, decimals, and percents are multiples of 10, making this a great activity for students beginning to learn about the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percents, or for those who need a review.
