Are you looking for a way to encourage your young readers to decode unfamiliar words rather than GUESS? I've created a unique colored-coded strategy that I call Gumball Phonics™.
It is SO effective that I want to share it with EVERYONE! It's free, why wouldn't it be? Teachers share their best practices with other teachers so that all students will benefit. We all have one common goal: to teach our students to read and write. Gumball Phonics™ is one of my BEST teaching strategies.
This FUN phonics approach will help your students visually discriminate between the various phonics and spelling patterns found in words they encounter while reading. Not only will this color-coding system make your students better readers, you will find they apply these same strategies when writing!
Another benefit to using Gumball Phonics™ is that it can be aligned with ANY phonics or anthology series!
It's a Win-Win-Win!
What is Gumball Phonics™?
Young readers are training their eyes to identify the many spelling patterns as they read. To help my students locate these "word chunks" we have a color coded system that we call "gumballs" because we draw a circle around them and color-code them...and they look like gumballs...
• short vowels:
• long vowels:
• consonant blends:
This free resource will help you set up this color-coded system with your young readers.
My students use this system all day. They color code their sight words, the articles, poems and even the word problems we read during a Math lesson! They even love to "gumball up" their own writing! It is a wonderful sight to see how they thrive using this visual and kinesthetic approach to phonics. And their work looks beautiful.
