PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This activity is one of my students favorites! It is a wonderful way to teach physical and chemical changes. Students complete 8 different stations in which they "terrorize" poor helpless gummy bears. At each station, students must determine if the way the gummy bear is terrorized is a physical change or chemical change based on the data they collect. The first station I use is adding a gummy bear to melted potassium chlorate. This station should be done as a demonstration. The rest of the stations students can complete in their own lab groups. The rest of the stations are:

1. Tearing a gummy bear into pieces
2. Chewing up a gummy bear
3. Digesting a gummy bear
4. Melting a gummy bear
5. Burning a gummy bear
6. Dissolving a gummy bear in hot water
7. Freezing and Smashing a gummy bear

This lab can be used to introduce physical and chemical changes or can be used at the end of teaching physical and chemical changes.
