Anytime we can meld math and candy, we will!
In this activity, students will estimate the lengths of their gummy worms in inches and centimeters. Then, they'll confirm the measurements using a ruler. Next, they'll stretch the gummy worm as far as they can (without breaking it of course) and estimate the lengths of the stretched out gummy worm in inches and centimeters. Last, they'll confirm the lengths of the stretched out gummy worms in inches and centimeters.
After all the measurements are taken, students will compare differences in lengths and explain why the same gummy worm can have different measurements.
Students can also survey their friends about the length of their gummy worms and create a line plot based on the data.
What a fun (and yummy) way for your students to practice their measurement skills!
