Are you fascinated, disturbed, motivated, galvanized by the current school safety / gun control debates going on in the country right now. Yet you feel you can’t really deal with the topic because you teach Geography, World Cultures, Global Studies, etc. Well, here is a way to engage your students in this topics by doing a UN simulation focused on the issues in the USA, yet involving the perspectives of many governments far and wide. Granted, this topic is a sovereign matter inside the USA, but you can skip that concern as long as you acknowledge that the UN cannot pass laws that the US must abide by. The General Assembly can only offer recommendations to the USA.
I have been teaching Model UN classes for 3 decades. See my profile for more credibility.
The following pages include brief “blurbs” on gun control policies in 23 countries. The countries included are from all over the world, although there are a disproportionate amount of countries from Europe.
The blurbs are not meant to be comprehensive. Students would be encouraged to do more research in order to fully represent their country.
