Meet Gus and Gina! These two adorable giraffes will help your students practice their phonics skills by listening for the hard g and soft g sounds in words.
Depending on the levels of your students, this could be used as a center activity or a small group activity since many of the words are challenging to read.
There are two sets of cards in this activity. The giraffe print cards target the initial g sounds while the vine cards target the middle and ending g sounds.
There are two options for students to check their work. Each set of cards has a matching self-checking page with a Gina or Gus picture. If you choose this option, simply print the word cards and the self-checking pages back to back. The other option is to use the answer keys.
Teacher preparation is simple: print and laminate the word cards and the sorting mats. The only cutting necessary is the word cards. Prepare the recording sheet for students. To save copies, the recording sheet can be laminated for dry-erase use.
